Course Summary & Description:
This manual provides detailed direction on hazard recognition and accident prevention in trenching and shoring, as outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Technical Manual Section V, Chapter 2.
Safety procedures regarding trenching and shoring during excavation is a critical step for both the designer and construction personnel associated with excavation. If strict safety procedures are not adhered to in the field; a disastrous outcome is almost eminent. With this occupational hazard in mind, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have recently revised their written standards and guidelines to assist specifically with excavation criteria and help recognize and prevent on the job trenching and shoring hazards.
The material covered in this manual will not only provide guidelines for different types of trenches and shoring techniques and the pitfalls associated with these excavation methodology but will also serve as a complete manual for safety, health, and design consultants interested in fully understanding the process of excavation and its potential disastrous impact on construction workers.
