Course Summary & Description:
This course presents an overview of various coastal structures and the construction process used to prevent shoreline erosion and flooding of the hinterland.
Coastal structures are used to shelter harbor entrances against waves, stabilization of navigation channels in inlets, and protection of water intakes and outfalls. Structures like sea dikes, seawalls, revetments, bulkheads, breakwaters, groins, and jetties are a few of the various types of coastal structures used in coastal defense. This course will also explore the different types and causes of failure associated each structure.
