License renewal requirement Summary

Summary	License renewal requirement
PDH / CE Hours Required:	24 PDH hours biennially (including, 1PDH in professional ethics) Licensees who renew between October 1, 2012 and September 30, 2013 must fulfill 12 PDH units - with a minimum of 9 PDH units in Category A programs, and a maximum of 3 PDH units in Category B programs. Licensees who renew on or after October 1, 2013, must fulfill 24 PDH units - with a minimum of 18 PDH units in Category A programs, including a minimum of 1 PDH unit in content areas related to the standards of practice or care, laws and regulations applicable to the practice of engineering in Maryland, or professional engineering ethics; and a maximum of 6 PDH units in Category B programs.
Renewal deadline:	Biennially.
State Approval:	The Maryland Board of Professional Engineers does not pre-approve providers or specific courses. Course selection is determined by the engineer; however, course selection must meet the requirements of the Maryland Board of Professional Engineers.
Course Objective:	Courses must be relevant to the practice of engineering and may include technical, ethical, or managerial content. PDH must have a clear purpose and objective for each activity which will maintain, improve, or expand skills and knowledge obtained prior to initial licensure or to develop new and relevant skills and knowledge.
PDH / CE Carryover:	A maximum of 12 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period.
Online Courses:	Accepted. No limit on number of PDH that can be achieved through online continuing education.
